Soviet Armed Forces Officer’s Class Badge, 3rd Class – A Symbol of Military Excellence
The Officer’s Class Badge of the Soviet Armed Forces, 3rd Class, was worn on clothing and indicated an officer’s rank or level of training. There were three classes in total, with a master’s badge above them, whose wearer could serve as a mentor. The third-class badge was the initial one, indicating that the officer had already achieved much but still had much to strive for in his military career.

Such badges are popular among collectors of Soviet memorabilia and awards and are often purchased as gifts. The badge is made of thin metal and is shaped like an inverted trapezoid. The trapezoid consists of horizontal stripes that shorten from top to bottom. The upper part consists of three gilded stripes stylized as embroidery or fabric. Below is a blue enamel stripe decorated with vertical golden lines and stylized lightning bolts.
The lower part is occupied by a short silver stripe with horizontal black lines. On top of it is a black tank. It indicates that the officer’s class badge is intended for a member of the tank forces. Above the tank is a white stylized shield painted with enamel. On it is a homing projectile resembling a thin rocket. The upper part of the badge is decorated with a semicircle of laurel branches, and a red five-pointed star lies on top of it.
