The camera is in excellent condition. No scuffs and mildew. The release button sticks a little due to a weak spring or lack of lubrication. There is no way to check the performance
The production of the “Beirax” series (“Kamerafabrik Woldemar Beier KG – Freital / GDR”) began like that of the Precisa before the war. In 1949 production of the “Beirax” (with folding viewfinder) was resumed under difficult conditions. In 1955 this “Beirax II” appeared, an improved model with an integrated viewfinder.
While the Precisa series was designed for the formats 6×6 and 4.5×6 cm, the Beirax had 6×9 and 4.5×6 cm to offer. The smaller format was achieved through an insert mask, and the viewfinder was also set up for both formats.
The lens and shutter were of a simple type: A Meritar 1: 6.3 / 105 mm (uncoated in the model shown) and a “Junior” shutter with 1/25, 1/50, 1/100 second and “B”.
